THE SET UP PROCESS

The first thing you must have is a modem that is supplied by Telus or Shaw. This converts the Internet signal coming in from the lines outside to a connection that the computer can use. Connected to the modem is usually a router that will create a wired and wireless network. It’s either built into the modem or it’s a small unit about the size of the modem and with antennae. This allows you to extend your internet connection over the airwaves, negating the need for cables which gives you a wireless signal. You can then connect all of your devices to this signal by using their built in wireless adapters. This works with smart phones, tablets, laptops, computers, printers and even some televisions. When this is done correctly, you will find that it helps you to stay more productive and it allows you to enjoy the full experience of these amazing new technologies.

To prevent the next door neighbors from logging into your wireless network, routers have the ability to add a security access key. This key is normally a combination of numbers and letters. This should always be implemented for the obvious reasons. There are also ways to restrict children to inappropriate content.
