A comprehensive Exploration of the Science of Roofing

This two day course is Part 1 of a two part series covering, in detail, aspects of the technology and science of roofing.

It features terminology and technical information regarding roof decks and structures, roof insulation, modified bitumen membranes, built-up roofing, single ply, SPF, PMR and flashing systems.

An understanding of heat transfer theory, moisture, thermal design, and the calculation of U-factors will also be presented.

 

Highlights of the program include:

-          Critical aspects of roof decking and related support structure.

-          Heat transfer and practical heat transfer calculations.

-          The function of heat transfer and the different types of roof insulation

-          The technology behind roofing bitumens and their related BUR and Modified bitumen membranes

-          Basic flashing nomenclature and bituminous flashing system construction

The Roof technology and Science I and II courses feature fundamental and advanced concepts that frequently prove useful for students who plan to enroll in other RCI Educational Programs.

This course also serves well as a stand alone course as it provides a broad technical background for roofing industry personnel and building owners.

2011 AGM & Conference
 
Thanks to all that turned out for our 2011 AGM & Conference! It was a great success with the most attendees ever! We had approximately 95 people attend the event held at the RCABC conference centre in Langley. Insightful presenters, including some folks from WorksafeBC, came out to educate us, answer questions, and listen to ideas.
 
Many thanks to the RCABC for allowing us the privilege of hosting this event at their facility again this year.
With this kind of turn out, we may have to look for a larger venue for next year!
 
The new board was elected at the AGM. Many of the same faces will remain on board with a few new additions, namely Marcus Dell of RDH who takes on the position of Secretary on the executive committee.  Josh Jensen of JRS, and Roman  Janovec of Roofmart will come on board to round out the group and take on some challanges in the coming year.

Many thanks from all RCI members goes out to Monty Klein for a successful year under his leadership. As president, he kept things in line and helped pave new roads for us all  to follow in.
